Josh Bennett, hard working TV producer for a quirky morning show in Milwaukee, Wisconsin meets his match in new co-host Tyler Dash. Josh, who is out of the closet and comfortable in his own skin, tries his best not to fall helplessly in love with Tyler; a man so deep in the closet that it would take a mining crew to suss him out. What follows is a cute, quirky, awkward and sometimes painful path that they find themselves traversing while trying to make things work.
It doesn't help (or does it?) that WPUD -- the small TV station they work at -- is a menagerie peopled with misfits and rejects from other local stations. Somehow by a wing and a prayer (and a good fire extinguisher) the motley crew manages to make the morning show work, albeit in a very bizarre way. All this combined makes for a wild, crazy, delicious and heart felt story of two people finding something in each other that they never expected -- love.

Dog and Pony is a really nice book. The story is quite simple, a romance taking place between an open and straightforward TV producer, Josh Bennett, and the deeply closeted co-host of the program Josh produces, Tyler Dash. They start a secret relationship which comes to an end when Josh understands Tyler will never acknowledge their relationship in public.This story is full of candour. That's what makes it special. The plot is uncomplicated, the characters are endearing in their simplicity.The two main characters are surrounded by an assortment of really wacky ones, their job mates at WPUD channel, who really liven things up with their carefree attitude as they struggle to survive fires, animal attacks and any other number of absurd calamities happening every other day in the show.
I must recognized I laughed aloud sometimes. And I was about to cry sometimes as well.There is a bit of everything in the book, just in the right measure: there is humour, love, despair, normality and absurdity. There is a bit of pain and a lot of laugh. And it is charming because it is just like the simple things of life, easily enjoyable if you just feel like it. All in all, a nice story, with a sweet HEA.

Dog and pony is a great little love story with a happily ever after ending. Won't give you any spoilers, but, the book is worth picking up, that said, like most fairy tales this story seemed a little too neat and tidy. While there was some great internalized angst by one of the characters the love conquers all theme was a little heavy towards the end. Also, would have been nice to play out the main characters dynamic a little more, but, that's just a personal preference as I'm not a fan of instant boyfriends.
I like this author. This is not your standard gay romance. The characters have depth and personality. There is no straight to bed, love you hea. This is a slow build, with dialogue and true life anxiety about the decision one makes to be true yourself. You cannot help but giggle and laughing out loud. The mishaps and just funny incidents this television show encounter is hilarious. I will suggest to all take a chance on this author you will not regret it.
Sweet, feel-good story with HEA. Believable characters. Lots of funny parts; made me smile, laugh, and cry.
Would love to see a prequel on Joshua's younger years.

This story had everything, humor, romance, a bit of angst and a happily ever after. I laughed out loud, cried a little, sighed at the sweet HEA and finished the book with a smile on my face.

I laughed, I cried, I laughed some more I very much loved this story of Josh, Tyler and the wacky people who work at this small news station in Milwaukee, when they aren't dealing with the occasional fire, grannies throwing metal chairs at each, a neurotic manager and a producer with a loyal fandom who like when he sporadically appears on screen to destroy wannabe chefs, the behinds-the-scenes stuff is just as interesting and I couldn't stop reading, I wish I could rate this book ten...fifteen...no twenty stars because it is just that good and I still want to read more. I swear if this was series just about the people who work at WPUD I would buy it and spend all day delving into the lives of these amazing, funny, wonderful people, I already can't wait to read it again.
Jair, Jair, Jair.........you absolutely have to write more books like this!!!
This book was a real love story with a great happy ending, but then there are hundreds of books like that in the gay romance genre. What makes THIS one different is Marlowe's writing style. I read a lot of gay romances, but too many of them are written at the level of a third grader. Marlowe writes like a well-versed writer with a true command of the English language! AND the comedy in this book abounds!! I used to live near Milwaukee (where much of this story takes place) and I can say that the goofy antics and mistakes that happen on-air at the television station featured in this book are very, very real. Those small time TV stations make mistakes and on-air gaffes that make you want to keep going back over and over again just to see if it gets any goofier!! If you want to fall in love and laugh all the way there......BUY THIS BOOK!
